Snow Warning
This afternoon we have received a weather warning from Dorset Council regarding heavy snow expected throughout Dorset overnight and during tomorrow. A decision will be taken in the morning on whether it will be necessary to close the school. Messages and latest updates will appear here on the school website. Heart FM will also be notified.

Building Work
The diggers have started work on the school playground.

 

Autumn Term 2009

Yesterday evening Key Stage 2 sang carols to a very appreciative audience.
As the first stage of the work for the new building the fences for the builders compound were delivered. Unfortunately the lorry got stuck in the mud!

This morning the school watched the Cygnets, Reception and KS1 Christmas production Dress Rehearsal.

Many thanks to everyone who helped to make our Christmas Fair such a success on Friday. We made over £1000, which will benefit the children enormously.

Pudsey visited last week and launched Children in Need at Downlands. We have some lovely photographs - thanks to the Garrison photographer for his contribution.

The Guy competition was won by Cedar class with their fantastic Guy Fawkes.

The Bonfire Night posters were so good that this year we had six winners!

This half term will, as usual, be full of interesting and stimulating activities and learning. As we get closer to Christmas there will be carols, glitter and excitement.

This year we are supporting the Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child. There will be further information coming home and, after assembly today, the children will be able to tell you all about it. .

Willow's assembly A News Report was a tremendous success. Do go to the Year 5/6 page for more information and photographs.
The last week of this half term has arrived surprisingly quickly. The children are already working on their Fireworks posters and deciding what their Guy will look like this year. The judging of the Guy will take place in the first week of next half term and, as usual, there will be photographs on the website.
Sycamore's assembly,written by the children, had the appropriate title Events that took place on the 15th October .
Pine introduced us to Boudicca and the Romans in their very interesting and informative assembly last Thursday. Do look at the Year 3/4 page to see more.
The first edition of the Chronicles of Downlands was published this week. Mrs Morgan's and Mrs Crookes' Newspaper Club distributed the copies to the classes.
We had the Big Brew, in aid of SAFFA, in school today. Parents and staff really enjoyed their Bacon Butties!
Cedar's assembly The Planets was extremely entertaining and informative. There are more photographs on the Year 3/4 page.
On Monday Sycamore and Willow had a very enjoyable trip to Moors Valley. To see more photographs do go to the Year 5/6 page.
Rights and Responsibilities was the theme of the assembly given by Beech last Thursday afternoon. Do go to the Year 3/4 page to see more.
Last Tuesday Padre came in to take our Harvest assembly. Do click on the photograph to see more pictures. All the food that was donated will go to help feed the homeless in Bristol.
On Thursday Year 3/4 spent a very enjoyable and useful day in Dorchester. The children visited the Museum and the Roman Town House.
Year 1/2 had a very successful visit to Brownsea Island last week. All photographs will be on the class page soon.

We all had a very good first week back at school. The sunshine has allowed us to make full use of our lovely grounds.

On Wednesday Year 1/2 will be spending the day on Brownsea Island. On Thursday Year 3/4 are off to Dorchester museum.

The Travelling Planetarium came to Year 3/4 this week. As you can see, the children met a spaceman!

Welcome back! This will be a very exciting term as we have a great many interesting and stimulating events planned.
